ABOUT GARRY RUSH
Gary Rush, “The Master Blaster”, the name says it all. To those who have followed motor racing over the last 3 decades, he is acknowledged as the greatest speedway driver Australia has ever produced.
During the late 60’s, Rush was one of the up-and-coming starts of Australian motorsport, racing week in, week out within the high profile and deadly dangerous world of that decade’s speedcar racing scene.
Rush was there when speedway racing was at its zenith, and 33 years later he is still screaming around speedways Australia wide. However time, energy and now that much needed pure adrenalin surge has died out for Gary Rush. Come 1997, Gary’s long anticipated retirement announcement came just prior to Christmas of that year. A decision had been made to finally hang up the Simpson helmet on March 28. His beloved Parramatta City Raceway would be the last race track in the world to host speedway’s living legend.
It was a fabulous ride-on-the-wild-side, watching Gary perform on our ovals, and it’s the sport’s loss that the time finally came to bow out. But leaving a winner is ultimately the way to go, and Garry, you couldn’t have done it better.
Sincerely,
Tony Loxley
